Many of my emails come from schools, colleges and people who wish to raise their level of cultural literacy, and improve their core competencies and skills. The Internet is filled with thoughtful, interesting, and informative places to visit, and I would like to share a few personal favorites:

BlackPressUSA.com provides news, commentary, and cartoons giving readers insight into the Black perspective. It offered covered of recent events in Iraq from an distinctly African American view point. BlackPressUSA.com is the joint web presence of America's Black community newspapers and the NNPA News Service.

The Center for the Study of White American Culture (the Center) supports cultural exploration and self-discovery among white Americans. It encourages a dialogue among all racial and cultural groups concerning the role of white American culture in the larger American society. This is one of my favorite sites. Helps people of color gain insights into the rich diversity among white Americans and the array of cultural perspectives. Visit it and be surprised. The Center currently is planning the White Anti-Racist Convention.

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) is a non-profit, grassroots membership organization that addresses misrepresentations about Muslims, tracks bias and provides education.

The National Council of La Raza (NCLR) is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan, tax-exempt organization established in 1968 to reduce poverty and discrimination, and improve life opportunities for Hispanic Americans.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) is dedicated to promoting and ensuring fair, accurate and inclusive representation of people and events in the media as a means of eliminating homophobia and discrimination based on gender identity and sexual orientation.

Labels itself an on-line version of American Asians 101 and offers interesting materials and articles. It is a comfortable and friendly learning lab for cultural literacy.

Program for Latino Research (IUPLR) a consortium of 18 Latino research centers based at major universities across the United States, is the only nationwide university-based research organization bringing together scholars from a wide variety of disciplines to conduct research on Latinos. A valuable resource for journalists, business people, and students.

The Joint Center for Political and Economic Studies provides research, analysis and information regarding key issues pertaining to the African American community. Students working on research papers will want to bookmark it. Includes the National Directory of African American Organizations, produced in collaboration with Altria Group, Inc.

Without a doubt, this is my favorite website. It provides useful teaching resources, books and materials. In addition, it has tests guests can take to privately assess their hidden biases. Visit it often and share it with friends!

The National Conference for Community and Justice, founded in 1927 as the National Conference on Christians and Jews, is a human relations organization dedicated to fighting bias, bigotry and racism in America. The conference promotes understanding and respect among all races, ethnic groups, religions and cultures, through advocacy, conflict resolution and education.
